Resilience - The Human Design

Updated: Dec 27, 2024

Life can feel like quite the rollercoaster sometimes, throwing all sorts of unexpected challenges our way. But here's something remarkable to remember - you are part of the most adaptable, resilient, and incredible species on Earth.

Your Amazing Human Design

Think about it: you sit at the top of the food chain, equipped with unmatched problem-solving abilities, remarkable cognitive skills, and powerful intuition. You're literally designed to overcome challenges. When life feels overwhelming, it's worth remembering just how extraordinary your capabilities are. You are a human being and as a species we are absolutely amazing. We have travelled to the moon, created the computer and every day we perform surgery on the brain and heart. Is there any other species that has such a CV?

Understanding Your Protective Response

Here's something fascinating - when modern life piles on the pressure (whether it's work deadlines, relationship challenges, or financial worries), your body activates its ancient protective system. It's the same response that kept your ancestors safe from sabre-tooth tigers! It's called a stress response and it makes you feel stressed, anxious and uncomfortable in order to make you take action to protect yourself from the danger.

While this might temporarily affect your creativity or focus, it's actually a sign that your body is working perfectly to protect you.

Your Built-in Resilience

Remember, your subconscious mind's primary purpose is protection and survival. While it might seem to overreact sometimes (still thinking you're facing sabre-tooth tigers!), this protective instinct has helped humans thrive for thousands of years. Your mind hasn't yet evolved to distinguish between ancient physical threats and modern stressors - it responds to deadlines, financial worries, mortgage applications, and relationship challenges just as it would to that ancient predator.

Embracing Your Human Strength

As you navigate challenging times, keep these truths in mind:

  1. You grow stronger with every experience

  2. Tough times are temporary

  3. Your potential is truly unlimited

  4. On the other side of adversity awaits opportunity

Working With Your Mind, Not Against It

You can harness this incredible system to your advantage. Try these natural ways to signal safety to your brain:

  • Take moments for calm, deep breathing

  • Stay hydrated - your brain loves water

  • Practice gentle relaxation

  • Visualise positive outcomes

  • Use 'brain dumps' to clear mental clutter

Supporting Your Journey

While you're naturally equipped to handle life's challenges, sometimes a little extra support can help. As a cognitive hypnotherapist in Reading and Marlow, I offer fast and effective assistance with overwhelm, anxiety, stress and relationship issues.

Remember, you are resilient, creative, and remarkably adaptable. You've navigated challenges before, and you'll emerge even stronger from current ones. Take a deep breath, trust in your incredible human capabilities, and know that everything will be alright.
